Check for a tape first
A radio and a cassette are two separate things to find. Several October 29 replies describe collecting tapes around the world and playing them through the radio. One reply explicitly identifies the released game. This supports a cassette-first check, but not a guaranteed tape location.[1]
Players describe one cassette at a time and a manual swap. We have not verified a keyboard shortcut, power-consumption rule, or automatic playlist function, so those are not part of these instructions.[1]
Why older answers say it does not work
| Report date | What players described | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| July 4, 2026 | Silent built-in and standalone radios | Demo-era experience, before the October release |
| October 28–30, 2026 | Working playback with world-looted cassettes | More relevant evidence for Early Access |
The release date is October 27. The change in reported behaviour is useful context, but it does not establish the exact patch that introduced music.[2][1]
If your radio is still silent
Check that you actually have a cassette inserted, then look at the available controls. One October 28 player reported that placing the radio in the van made it work; treat that as a single-player troubleshooting lead, not a universal installation requirement.[1]
If it remains silent, record the vehicle, whether the radio is built in or loose, the tape, and the visible prompts. Keep spare tapes together so you can change one variable at a time. This is an organisation suggestion, not a hidden game mechanic.
